Hello my name is James Halfaday thank you for being here. Many of you are friends and colleagues I’ve worked with over the years. Today I am announcing my candidacy for the Democratic nomination to the Charlottesville City Council. I am under no illusion that you came here today just for me. You have come here because we need to infuse our city with new energy. You have come here for your sons and daughters and your grandchildren. You have come here for the future of
As long as I have been a resident of
Over the past few years I have served on many boards and commissions to improve our neighborhoods and community. I have been an active voice on the Charlottesville Department of Police Advisory Board. I have worked to improve our relations with the community whether it is racial issues or to improve our complaint process to hold top officials accountable for their department’s actions.
I have also been a facilitator working with the city on the Dialogue on Race. I have heard many racial and heartfelt passionate stories that have happened in our community. I felt the frustrations of our residents. The majority of them just want to be heard and have it mean something. I am that ear and voice that will stick up for all of our residents, I am a firm believer in equality. Together we can build a successful partnership in moving our city forward. We cannot remain a city divided along racial and income lines. We must be one
I have served on the Building Code of Appeals for the city as well, always keeping the checks and minuses in balance and to ensure that the standards are met to ensure the safest accommodations for all.
My belief and vision for
• Right now, PEOPLE WANT GOOD PAYING JOBS AND LOCAL BUSINESSES SUPPORTED.
• I believe officials should meet more with residents and neighborhood associations to voice/hear their concerns, residents first.
• I believe that there should never be cuts in our Education.
• I believe that a student dropping out is not an option and the High School/GED is a must. We need everyone’s talent. Let’s not give up on our youths.
• I believe we should come together to deal with the issue of homelessness. We need to seek affordable housing for all. I want a temporary deferral of personal property tax for low and fixed income families.
• I believe
• I believe fairness and equality should be sought in every city action.
• I will not support any new tax increases.
