On July 5th, 2012 at 1:30pm I will be formally sentenced for the alleged crime of “False Statement On Form Required By Title {VOT-5133-F5} (Residence Address)” to which I have accepted and pled guilty. During my campaign I adhered to a saying and that was: “The buck stops with me.” Although I have followed my campaign principle and have chosen to accept the guilty plea, this does not mean I accept the Commonwealth’s stand on other issues and in particular, the fact that the Commonwealth of Virginia does not acknowledge “Civil Unions” for same-sex couples.
Throughout my campaign and the months that have followed, my family, friends and the Charlottesville community have always stood by me and I want to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you.
I will continue on both in my professional and personal life to strive for equality, education and accountability and I hope that you have found a bit of courage to go forward with the message of equality for all. I sincerely hope that others will continue the struggle to achieve equality for all and for Gay and Lesbian rights, regardless of whether I am able to continue to contribute in this area myself. In late August I hope to have more information to announce concerning my future in the Commonwealth.
